busy busy!!
Been a while since I posted on my blog as its just been so hectic here! Have been busy trying to decide which direction funky little munky is heading. Dont know whether to go down the 'all out' trade show, big orders route or stick to the local boutiques and online orders path.
Its difficult as need to start deciding on new collections or sticking to what sells well, funky babygros are always going to be best sellers but its whether to aim funky little munky into the toddler age range of the clothes market??
Gonna think about it as the designer babyshow is coming up soon and we'll probably get a better idea of which path to choose depending on the sales and feedback there.

VOGUE!
funky little munky has been recommended as a great buy for babies in the latest edition of 'bambino vogue'. Its a special edition for the little voguers out there and features some of the best new designers from the UK. It was published at the beginning of August so copies are out now.. we're cutting it with the big boys!!

designer baby show
Have decided to exhibit at the designer baby show on November 15th this year. It looks like its going to be big event with lots of new & exciting names on board already!
Decided some time ago to stop exhibiting at public aimed shows and to try and attend more trade only fairs but this one really appealed to me. The shear expense of exhibiting means not all shows are accessible and I have learnt to choose carefully. Some fairs were just not worth the time spent setting up, travelling etc..I had to think about doing one or the other...trade or public. As trade shows hit the exact target market i was aiming for it seemed only reasonable to go for these ones.
Anyway the designer baby show in November in Berkshire sounds good, fingers crossed!

business dilemas
Am in abit of dilema and unsure what to do next. Have almost sold out of one of my babygro designs and dont know whether to do a repeat order or wait until next season and new a whole new range. This is where I wish I had a business mentor or adviser so I could bounce some ideas off them.
I guess it all comes with experience and being in business longer but as a relative newbie to business I could do with a sounding board!

Bubble baby fayre
funky little munky is attending bubble baby fayre this month - think its bout 21st June. Going as a guest to check out whats hot n whats not on the baby scene!!
Not attended before, seen as not yet been trading a year but think it will be a good experience for us all. Really excited, me & my marketing & PR lady will be going checking out the competition. Will write about our findings on our return....

Feeling a twit
Have been signed up for twitter for months now but never got the time to really look into it...until now. Started a few days ago just posting a few things on there, think its a bit like a short blog with much less info to write. fighting funkys!!
Been busy filming, starring in and editing the latest funky little munky video for you tube. Was so funny actaully filming in a local field near us..especially when a local dog walker strolled by as though nothing was out of the ordinary..maybe not in his world. Anyway check it out......

Duncan Bannatyne
Trying still to finish his 2nd book - really really good & keeps me motivated on the business front but just dont get any time to finish it. Will have to go and see him live instead. Sure he does talks somewhere??
Decisions
Time to start making decisions... shall I approach shops, armed with my products all ready and waiting in the car incase they're interested or shall I ring first??
Does look kind of rude just popping in and showing them what ive got, not very professional either but on the other hand it is really difficult getting anyone to actually SEE my clothes. Am sure once they actually see them up close they can look at the high quality and feel the luxury fabric for themselves but its just getting that initial contact. Urrrrr. No matter how many photos or emails i could send out the quality just cant be replicated in a picture and so can easily be rejected. I need a tactile photo... i wonder if thats been invented yet????

Dropshipping
Have been looking into the ins & outs of dropshipping. The way i see it is that someone else puts my clothes in their shops for their own RRP and I send the goods to the customers direct. Helps the retailer as they dont have to buy anything upfront..helps me as they buy my products, be at a lower cost.
Not sure if it gets more complicated when discussing P&P, handling, returns etc but sure I'll find out. Trying it out with a friend at mo so probably more difficult with someone I've never worked with before. Not really sure if it will work out in the end, will just have to see, learning the pro's n con's as I go along...not really sure thats the right way round!!
Oh also BIG NEWS.....

Summer playsuit collection
Here's a sneak preview of the summer collection. It consists of short cute playsuits with matching little ankle socks perfect for those hot summer days that we are bound to have this year!
They are made from the popular striped Chocolate Lime and Bon Bon fabrics of the long babygros and come complete with a colour coordinating pocket on the front. Definitely good enough to eat!!
Jumping Jacks
funky little munky is now also for sale in Jumping Jacks in Ashton Under Lyne. It is considered to be one of the best childrens shops in the North of England! They will stock the complete range of funky little munkys clothing designs, including the new summer playsuit collection.
The owner of Jumping Jacks was really helpful and gave me good advice about starting up in the babywear trade. We discussed exhibiting at the larger trade fairs in the UK and whether it was worth while.Having been in the business a long time she seemed to feel the trends were going away from the UK fairs and heading towards Europe. Alot of the bigger buyers such as Selfridges, John Lewis etc were all looking towards Florence to make their purchases... oh well, if needs must.. Florence it is then!

Stockists
Funky little munky is now being stocked in the shops!!
Have approached a few local baby boutiques in the North West area and they all seem quite keen to stock the designs. Have got a few appointments this week with buyers to try and plug my products. Not done anything like this before and unsure really how to sell to them, but thought I would take the plunge anyway.
Its difficult though, having listened to advice from my business forums at this present time due to shops being reluctant to buy. They tend to stick to brands that they know will sell and can make a return on so think Ive got my work cut out.
Tilly flops in Oldham is the first baby boutique I have approached and Im really chuffed to say as of tomorrow funky little munky will be on sale there! Its a really nice, little boutique with lots of high quality, designer brands on sale. Its a family run shop with a good range of products and even a baby area in the corner for stress free browsing!!
